It is important to me that I hear the views of our community on the big issues that matter. It is for this reason I am embarking on a new initiative to hear your thoughts on the energy transition and how we minimise impacts on your cost of living.

I am working with independent engagement company democracyCo on the My Community in One Room project where we will be  exploring the question – How will moving away from coal, gas and oil impact on your cost of living and lives?  What should be done about it?

The Community in One Room Forum will bring together a diverse and broadly representative sample of 80-100 people in our area over 4 sessions to explore the problems and opportunities in moving away from coal, gas and oil and what we do about it.

Attendees will be supported to explore this question with advice from a diverse range of experts and a carefully facilitated process that enables participants to learn about the issue as well as understand each other’s views.

There is also an opportunity for everyone in the electorate to get involved and have their voice heard online!

How can you get involved?

If you are a constituent of the Seat of Bennelong – there are two potential ways you can get involved–

  • Be part of the Bennelong in One Room Forum. Were you one of the lucky 18,000 people who were selected by lottery to be invited to be part of the In One Room Forum? Did you receive a letter of invitation in the mail? If so follow the online link provided on the invitation to register your interest. Whatever your age, your education level, or your experience – your voice counts. We want involvement from a real cross-section of people from across Bennelong, so if your household has received this letter then you are the right person to take part! The In One Room Forum is fun, interactive, collaborative and provide participants with an amazing opportunity to affect change. The Forum offers an excellent opportunity to positively connect and make a difference.
  • Tell us your views online – Anyone can share their views about how we should go about reducing the impact of energy on our cost of living and lives. Find out more here

My commitment to listening

Following receipt of the final report from the Community In One Room Forum I will –

  • make representations to the Federal Parliament about the Forum’s work.
  • advocate for the recommendations through the Federal Labor Party
  • write to the relevant Minister/s to advise them of the views of my electorate and
  • where appropriate work with our community to address this issue.

I will also report back to the community 6 months after the election about the action I have taken on this issue.

In the meantime, I will publish the Forum’s advice on my website in full and unchanged and will write to all known candidates for the seat of Bennelong to provide them with the Forum’s final report.
