See Street Meadowbank Petition

In May 2023, Councillor Bernard Purcell (Labor) City of Ryde, moved that See Street Meadowbank receive a raised pedestrian crossing, to help address acute pedestrian safety issues arising from the roadworks on Constitution Road. This motion received unanimous support, and in July 2023 the Traffic Committee endorsed this project.

Nine months on, no action has been taken by the City of Ryde.

Pedestrian safety issues in this location are worse than ever. Traffic volumes have increased due to the subsequent closure of Constitution Road.

In a location with two primary schools (Meadowbank and Italian Bilingual School), two childcare centres, a highschool and a TAFE, there is no safe crossing in an appropriate location for the hundreds of affected children and families.

Add your name to our petition to call on the City of Ryde to immediately proceed with the delivery of a raised pedestrian crossing and provide temporary traffic control to keep this area safe.

WE CALL ON THE CITY OF RYDE TO:

(a) Proceed immediately with the delivery of a raised pedestrian crossing on See Street, Meadowbank, to the south of Stone Street.

(b) In the interim and during construction, to provide a temporary traffic control staff allocation, using appropriate equipment such as lollipop signage, during peak child pedestrian times (before and after school), to address the serious safety risks created by the current construction arrangements.
