About Jerome Laxale

Jerome is a true Bennelong local and has three children growing up in  the area. With a strong sense of community, having his family firmly planted in the electorate means that he is truly committed to helping Bennelong for the long haul

Jerome has spent the last five years as the Mayor of Ryde: leading community struggles across the City, investing in public infrastructure,  creating small-business support packages during lockdown and fighting for a genuine response to climate change across all levels of Government.

In addition to his record of effective and local-driven politics, Jerome also has an extensive background in the private sector, working as a director on boards, in addition to nearly 20 years in a family business in Western Sydney. He is also the current Treasurer of Local Government NSW.

A history of representing the community

In his years on Council, Jerome has fought for better facilities, with more open space for community events that bring people together, instead of spreading division. Jerome initiated a partnership with Australia’s ‘Racism it stops with me!’ campaign, and led a national push against weakening the Racial Discrimination Act. Recent years have seen Jerome driving Council’s divestment of fossil fuels, banning the use of single-use plastic in Council operations and Events, further investment in Solar power and EV chargers, establishing a renewable energy target and committing to 100% net emissions reduction by 2030.
