February 2026
Sod Turning Ceremony – Construction Begins
Work has officially commenced on the exciting transformation of Blenheim Park in North Ryde, marking the beginning of a major upgrade that will deliver improved recreational facilities, better accessibility, and modern park infrastructure for the City of Ryde’s growing community.
The project was developed following extensive community consultation and is being funded by an $8 million Federal Government investment through the Priority Community Infrastructure Program, alongside $4.7 million from the City of Ryde Council.
The project will be delivered in stages and is expected to be completed by July 2027.
Key improvements include:
- A major regional playground featuring nature play elements including water play, sand play and a flying fox
- Two new multi-use courts and additional social recreation spaces
- A skate park and table tennis areas
- Fitness stations and new social gathering spaces
- Picnic shelters and barbecue areas
- A dedicated fenced dog off-leash area with shade, seating and amenities
- Upgrades to the radio-controlled car track including spectator and pit areas
- New pathways, lighting and park access improvements
- Parking improvements on site and along Blenheim Road
- Environmental upgrades including bioswales and biodiversity corridors
These improvements are designed to create safe, accessible and engaging spaces for people of all ages and abilities, while supporting recreation, community events and everyday use of the park.
Work had previously been delayed while specialist contractors completed important remediation works following the discovery of asbestos, hydrocarbons and heavy metals at isolated locations during routine testing in 2024. Investigations confirmed the contamination was consistent with former landfill conditions and posed no risk to public health once remediation was completed.
With remediation now complete and construction underway, the vision for a revitalised Blenheim Park is finally moving forward.
As our community continues to grow, projects like this help ensure we have modern, accessible open spaces for families, kids and local sporting groups.

- Construction of a new skatepark

Stage 2 – Requires DA approval for rezoning and road closure

Funding Delivered for Blenheim Park
The Federal Government has now signed a deed with Ryde Council, confirming the $8 million investment to upgrade Blenheim Park.
The new Blenheim Park will include:
A new skate park
Multi-use courts
An all-inclusive playground
Biodiversity upgrades
Improvements to the dog park
And more
Councillor Penny Pedersen and I have worked hard over many years to save and enhance this park. With funding now secured, we look forward to seeing this long-awaited project come to life.

Letter to Constituents: Construction Set to Begin
I’m pleased to confirm that $8 million has now been delivered to the City of Ryde Council to fund major upgrades to Blenheim Park.
This was a commitment I made before the 2022 election, and I’m proud to have delivered on that promise. With the funding secured, the Council will now proceed with construction.
Having spent 10 years in local government, I know how critical it is to invest in our parks and public spaces—and how valuable federal support can be to get these projects off the ground.
The upgrades include:
Expanded tree canopy to improve shade and biodiversity
Active recreation areas including new skate elements and multi-use courts
An upgraded, all-inclusive playground with improved accessibility
A new dog park
A new amenities building and picnic facilities
Relocation and upgrade of the remote-control car track
Many of you know how involved I’ve been in first saving and now improving Blenheim Park. First, we stopped high-rise development. Then, we acquired the land. Now, we’re delivering a world-class park for our community.

Works Begin on Blenheim Park
Six years ago, developers tried to rezone this land to build 45-metre-high towers at Blenheim Park. The Liberal State Government said the proposal “had merit.”
But we stood firm. Alongside our community, we fought to protect this land, acquire it, and expand the park.
Today, it’s so rewarding to see works begin. I couldn’t be prouder of our community and what we’ve achieved together.

Labor Government Commits $8 Million to Blenheim Park Upgrades
I’m incredibly proud to announce that, with the support of a Federal Labor Government, we will deliver a better Blenheim Park—backed by an $8 million investment for these much-needed upgrades.
A Federal Labor Government will fund the City of Ryde’s masterplan to breathe new life into this much-loved community space right here in North Ryde.
During my time as Mayor, I fought alongside the community to stop high-rise development in Blenheim Park. Thanks to the Council’s acquisition of land from developers, we were able to protect the park and make way for this major transformation.
Labor’s $8 million investment will help:
Upgrade the playground including water and sand play
Create new walking and cycling paths
Improve picnic and BBQ facilities
Build new multi-use courts and a skate facility
Create a fenced dog off-leash area
Enhance environmental features including a biodiversity corridor and climate change resilience
Relocate and upgrade the remote control car track
Install new fitness equipment
Improve parking facilities

Like many locals, I’ve been waiting for upgrades to take place. As Mayor, in 2020 I fought for and developed the Blenheim Park Masterplan to forward plans for this very day and to ensure locals had the open space and facilities we all deserve. This built on years of work to ensure that Blenheim Park was protected and expanded.
